Overwatch Bugged Capture Points To Watch Out For
Lots of players have been there: rushing towards the objective in a last-ditch attempt to save the game. You and your teammates are struggling for the point. Right as it looks like you’ve touched, the match ends in defeat. What– why? Luckily (or maybe, unluckily) you aren’t alone. There are a handful of capture points that can actually trick you into a false sense of security, with their boundaries not matching their actual limits. Here are 3 Overwatch bugged capture points, and ways to avoid their accidental pitfalls.

The cupboard under the stairs on Hanamura Point B
Whether attacking or defending on Hanamura Point B, be sure not get tripped up on the slight elevation of these stairs. There’s no way to easily jump up so if you’re thinking of contesting right on the line of stairs most character models don’t even register. Most tanks have large enough frames that this specific alcove shouldn’t be an issue. So, if instead you’re cryo-freezing with Mei or emoting with Lucio, it might end up losing you the match.
Try not to come in flying to Volskaya Point B
Volskaya Point B has quite a few upper-level platforms. So it makes logical sense that the development team disabled contesting from the higher elevations. Unfortunately, a slight oversight means that disabled section extends into space above the point as well. This means if you’re using any flying heroes to swoop onto the point, like Echo or D.Va, you should be very wary of coming straight in from above. Your best bet is to try off-angles from the side or try flying in extra-low (just to be safe).
The two phantom plants on Ilios Well
Illios Well is arguably one of the fan-favourite control maps in the whole of Overwatch. Yet even this exceptional ‘environmental-kill extravaganza’ has a few small blemishes to be cautious of. Judging from the placement of the two dead zones on the right of well, they look to be mirror images of the potted plants on the left. The most likely explanation is that sometime early in development there used to be planters on both sides. Now, even though the foliage is gone, their remaining footprint means keeping an eye on the overtime timer to make sure you’re actually contesting. Waiting until the last second to uncloak as Sombre or moon-jumping over the side with Baptiste won’t matter much if you hug the wall too close to these deadzones.
Overwatch is a game full of split-second decision making and clutch saves that make all the difference. Moreover, being careful in those heated moments is all about remembering these small spots where level design can let you down. Taking the extra time might be the difference between a win and a loss.
