Fallout 4 is a masterpiece of a game, it’s all about survival with the main objective being to scavenge for supplies. Ever wondered what it’s like to live in a post-apocalyptic world? This is definitely the game for you. It’s certainly a difficult task but don’t worry! Here’s some handy glitches and exploits that will make surviving the wastelands of Fallout 4 a little bit easier.
This isn’t a glitch per se but that honestly just makes things easier, don’t risk it if you don’t have to!
The first thing to look for in order to get this XP exploit is a safe with a terminal near it and check the terminal for ‘[ > Safe Control ]’. Is it there? Great! Now for the fun part:
First, unpick the lock on the safe and get yourself the initial XP. Then open the terminal and select ‘Safe Control’ and ‘Engage Lock’. Once it’s finished you can turn back to the safe and the lock should be back intact! Each time you unpick the lock you’ll gain the same amount of XP as the first time.
Typically, for Novice Locks you’ll get 7 XP, for Advanced Locks you’ll get 12/13 XP,and for an Expert Lock you’ll get 20 XP, this can vary though.
Some locations you may want to check out include:
Don’t be afraid to check out more safes, it may not be much XP but it adds up!
Have you ever opened up a dialogue menu, selected a response, and then immediately regretted your decision? Me too, but in real life.
In Fallout 4, however, there is a way to get around this! And as I’ve mentioned before, the simpler, the better.
Once you’ve opened a dialogue menu, or you already have one open, pause the game (before picking an option) and quicksave the nuke out of it. This means that if at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again!
Look at that, 100% success rate achieved!
So, you’ve just raided a camp of Super Mutants and you’ve collected one spoon too many. Well, what can you do? Leave it? Screw that! You’ve got a perfectly good (and deceitful if I may so) companion at your disposal.
If you’ve got a few too many items but you don’t want to leave anything behind then just get your companion to pick it up. Despite saying that their carry weight is full, apparently Bethesda forgot to cap it there, they can carry an unlimited amount!
Disclaimer: they won’t carry more items through ‘Trade’ and some companions will refuse to pick up items marked as stolen so it’s best to pick up the item yourself, drop it, then get your buddy to carry it.
I feel like I have to note, unfortunately this doesn’t apply to Dogmeat, as perfect as he may be.
And no, this isn’t a duplication glitch.
You’re going to want to equip the weapon that you want free ammo for, place the ammo you currently have into a container. The game now thinks you have a magazine full in that weapon!
If you use up the ‘phantom magazine’, go back to the container, take your real ammo out, unequip the weapon, re-equip the weapon, and place the ammo back into the container. Another free magazine!
Unfortunately this does mean that if you have a gun with a small magazine you’ll probably be heading back and forth a lot of the time… But hey, if you’re low on bullets but you still want to use that gun, this could come in handy!
While using the ‘phantom magazines’ you can’t reload the gun you’re using or the exploit will be voided.
Aside from his irresistible adorableness, Dogmeat proves himself an invaluable asset to your mini 2-man team.
If you’ve played Fallout I’m sure you know about the Cryolator, it’s a pretty great gun to have in your collection. Unfortunately it requires the level 3 Locksmith perk and several items that can’t get until later in the game in order to obtain the gun.
Unless you consider this glitch of course.
Once you’ve gained Dogmeat as a companion, head back to Vault 111, where you saw the frozen weapon in the Overseer’s Office. Open the door and have Dogmeat stand in front of it. Now follow these interaction options:
Dogmeat should detect something pretty quickly and head into the cage where the weapon is in its case. Your new pal should pluck the Cryolator straight out of its case and hand it over to you.
Simple as that, what a good boy!
