Final Fantasy XIV 5.3 Reflections In Crystal was slated for a July summer launch. However, in a statement the games producer Naoki Yoshida (or Yoshi-P as he’s more affectionately known,) Has announced the official release of the next update. The title has been pushed back due to difficulties faced with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic affecting work conditions on the project.
In a statement to fans of the game Yoshida stated that the update “will be delayed by more than a month at the very least, but we are pushing to keep that delay as short as possible. We will announce a new release date in the near future, so please stay tuned!”
He went on to estimate that the development team behind Final Fantasy XIV has a work capability of 85 to 90 percent in recent weeks compared to its usual capability in office as the pandemic runs into the months citing work from home issues regarding network issues, reduced debug efficiency and general stresses of having to adapt to a current trend in working from home. Something the team promises to work on as time goes on.
The long anticipated 5.3 update of FFXIV promises major updates to the storyline of the game, streamlining 2.0 content from “A Realm Reborn” – The standalone XIV started with, a known issue with players due to long winded quests and a long playtime in general. Developers announced with the release of Shadowbringers that this content would be condensed to make it easier for players to move onto later DLC content. The patch also looks to continue the NieR:Automata crossover event plotline with 2P.
The delay comes after Square Enix were also forced to cancel it’s North American iteration of it’s Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival due to the pandemic, which was due to take place in November, North American fans can now look forward to a 2021 date for the event.
