First Time Playing SUPERHOT?

Today, we revisit the original SUPERHOT in celebration of the launch of the sequel, SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE. If you’ve never played or even heard of the game series, then we’re here to give you tips on the basics.

Go in Blind

If you want the full experience, stop reading this! SUPERHOT is a highly rewarding arcade-style FPS. It won’t necessarily reward you for being intuitive, but it does feel really good to learn things by yourself. As well as boasting an original blend of FPS, strategy, and puzzle, SUPERHOT also shows off an original interface which almost acts like a character in itself. The result is an abstract and engaging surreal narrative which is great fun to immerse yourself in.

The game is this; you’ll be placed in a map full of bad guys, all of whom are out to kill you. Be careful, as they can do this in one hit, be it with bullets, blades, or even their fists! The ways you can fight back are equally basic, but this doesn’t mean you have to do anything in one particular way. Replay levels to practise different routes, attacks, defences, and takedowns. Often there is an abundance of weapons at your disposal, so play around. Oh yeah, another thing to note is that when you stop moving, time freezes.

Wait, what?

That’s right. What makes SUPERHOT so addictive is the endless outcomes and methods you can take to win. Say an enemy has fired a bullet at your head. You stop moving, and now the bullet travels at a snail’s pace. Can you jump over it? Can you sidestep fast enough to reach that gun on the table? Or can you slice that bullet in half if you time a strike with a katana well enough? Strategy is a major part of the gameplay, so I’d advise, before going in guns blazing, to assess your potential routes and options beforehand.

Sacrifice may be Necessary…

Sometimes, your best option is to get rid of your high-level shotgun in favour of a quicker escape route. Although the machine gun packs way more of a punch compared to your much weaker fists, don’t be afraid to drop or throw your weapon for a new one. In some cases, throwing is more effective. Why risk missing someone far away with a bullet when you could throw the entire gun at them instead? Throwing guns at enemies also makes them drop whatever they’re holding, temporarily stunning them. Additionally, once they’ve dropped their weapon after you’ve thrown yours at their face, you can now take theirs. There are plenty of options!

This has to be the best shotgun dodge in the history of super hot ...

… or You Can Save for Later!

Unfortunately, this tip only applies to one particular weapon. Fortunately, however, it is one of the coolest in the game. The katana can be thrown at enemies, unleashing devastating insta-kill blows. To save one for later, simply throw one into a wall. The sword will stick into the wall and can be removed just as easily over and over! Just remember not to throw it too high, otherwise, it’ll get stuck somewhere you can’t reach!

Death from Above

This handy tip is a borderline glitch. Enemies can be taken down in close range with your fists, but this takes a risky time-consuming three punches. Time it right and you can insta-kill your opponent by jumping on them. It’s easier of course if you’re jumping from a car or roof, but sometimes this works on flat ground as well. Jump right at the enemy at ground level and you can glitch the game to kill them immediately. Just make sure they’re not pointing a gun at you or in mid-swing with a baseball bat!
