The final collectible that you’ll need in order to truly feel fulfilled in Hollow Knight is the Mask Shards. Every four shards awards an increase in your available health pool! So here’s the locations and costs of all the mask shards in Hollow Knight.
This first shard is bought from Sly in his shop in Dirtmouth and is available immediately after he’s set it up. You can buy it for 150 Geo!
The second shard is also bought from Sly’s shop in Dirtmouth but you need to buy the first shard first. This shard can be bought for 500 Geo!
Mask shard number 3 is located in the temple in Greenpath. You’ll need Lumafly Lantern to get this shard which can be bought from Sly for 1,800 Geo. The shard is all the way to the right of the temple in the final chamber!
This shard also requires the Lumafly Lantern and a Simple key which can be bought from Sly or found in the Soul Sanctum area of the City of Tears. It’s found in the western section of the Royal Waterways. If you go from the Fungal Wastes entrance, head right, drop into the water, and turn left to follow the path. The shard is in this hidden alcove!
To get shard number 5 you’ll have to have already rescued 5 Grubs. The shard is located at the Forgotten Crossroads from the Grubfather in the northwestern region!
Shard 6 is in the bottom right section of the Queen’s Station Stagway which is located in the far left of the Fungal Wastes. You’ll need Mothwing Cloak and the Mantis Cloak in order to get this one!
The seventh shard is bought from Sly’s shop for 800 Geo after you’ve obtained the Shopkeeper’s Key.
Similarly, mask shard number 8 is also bought from Sly’s shop after you’ve collected the Shopkeeper’s Key but this one costs 1,500 Geo!
This mask shard is located in The Hive and can be obtained after you’ve gained access to Ancient Basin and you have a Tram Pass. You can scheme your way in by using the Hive Guardian’s force, I’ll let you figure that one out!
Mask shard number 10 is found in Deepnest but you’ll have to take the Fungal Core route just northwest of the Mantis Village. You’ll need Monarch Wings and the Mantis Claw to get this shard.
The next shard can be found after you’ve collected the Dream Nail. Once you’ve got this, you’ll be able to use Whispering Roots and challenge Dream Warriors in order to get Essence. Trade 1,500 Essence with Seer in Resting Grounds to get your hard-earned shard!
Once again you’ll need Mantis Claw or Monarch Wings to collect this shard. It is located in the southern reaches of Forgotten Crossroads, south of Hot Springs. It’s in an alcove in the large cavern, go explore!
You’ll need to already have the Nail Jump technique and to have already completed the Brooding Mawlek boss encounter to get this one! Once you’ve beaten him in the western regions of Forgotten Crossroads, the shard will appear.
Head to the tunnels underneath Resting Grounds by using Desolate Dive to smash through the stone coffin located to the left of the Resting Grounds Stagway. Keep heading right until you find the Grey Mourner, collect the Delicate Flower, and begin the side quest. Once completed, head back to the Grey Mourner and receive your shard!
For this shard you’ll need Mantis Claw and Mothwing Cloak. You’ll first have to find Bretta in the southern region of the Fungal Wastes. After you’ve found and spoken to her, she’ll return home to Dirtmouth. Head to Dirtmouth and find her house (to the right of Cornifer and Iselda’s Shop), the mask shard is in there!
The final shard is located in the northern region of the Crystal Peak area. You’ll need both Monarch Wings and Mantis Claw (by now you should definitely have it…). Wake the Crystal Guardian and defeat it and then jump up to the next section to defeat the Enraged Guardian. Now head left to collect your last mask shard!
Now you have all 16 mask shards in Hollow Knight, you should have four more slots available for health!
