How To Survive Apocalypse Mode In Minecraft Dungeons
Minecraft Dungeons may be family-friendly on the surface, but it can get BRUTAL on Apocalypse difficulty. Here are some tips to keep you alive as you fight your way through Minecraft Dungeon’s hardest mode. Here’s how to survive Apocalypse Mode in Minecraft Dungeons!
The Numbers Can Lie
In Minecraft Dungeons, every item has a little power number just under their icon in your inventory. These work great as a quick estimate of their power, and should always be used when you’re comparing artifacts. However, with swords, bows and armour, these numbers can lie. For example, a 72 power bow could be significantly worse than a 68 power bow. Always look closely at new gear you pick up to check out its stats and its enchantments to make sure you’re not getting a bad deal.
Enchantments Are Key
Following on from the last point, enchantments are the number one thing that will separate the mediocre gear from the game-winners. Here are some of the enchantments that I’ve found most useful on my way through Apocalypse. Remember, enchantments can stack with themselves, leading to some crazy results.
For ranged builds, Cowardice and Deflect is my number one combo – Cowardice gives you extra damage when you’re at full health, whilst Deflect gives you a chance to deflect hits, keeping you at full health more often. Stacking multiple copies of Deflect is incredible if you get lucky enough to find them.
For melee builds, Thorns is an auto-include if you get the chance. Dealing 300% of damage taken back at the enemy is a ridiculously powerful effect at high difficulties, stopping you from getting swamped by mobs whilst possibly dealing upwards of 30K damage to the unfortunate soul who hit you. Take this option every time it appears.
Mining For Gear
Like any dungeon crawler, Minecraft Dungeons puts a massive emphasis on the gear you take with you into battle. Farming is a necessary chore when you reach Apocalypse mode, but luckily for us, the level select screen actually shows you what gear you can get from each level, speeding up our grinding tremendously. Once you know what gear you’re after (keep notes of what gear you like!), you can repeatedly run through a specific level looking for that perfectly enchanted Soul Robe or Battle Staff.
Bonus Tip: listen out for a jangling, humming sound when you’re farming. This means a secret chest is nearby! Search your surroundings and bag that extra chest of loot.
When A Plan Comes Together
Both melee and ranged builds are viable in Minecraft Dungeons, but whatever you focus on, always prepare for the enemies you find hardest. A Corrupted Beacon will help your melee build make quick work of those pesky Redstone Golems and Royal Guards, whereas a Death Cap Mushroom will help a ranged build take care of a high pressure Evoker encounter.
Good luck on your journey through Apocalypse mode! We hope these tips will come in handy on your way.
