Animal Crossing: New HorizonsFEATURED

The 10 Best Animal Crossing Villagers To Spend Quarantine With

The heart of the Animal Crossing franchise is, of course, the many villagers you can have as your neighbours. In New Horizons there are 391 villagers to meet (excluding special characters). Here’s a list of the 10 best animal crossing villagers that have been raking in a serious profit (in-game and IRL) during lockdown.

1. Raymond

Whether he’s on your dreamie list or you think he’s over-hyped, Raymond is the no.1 most sought after villager. He is statistically one of the best Animal Crossing villagers right now, like it or not. If you have the fortune of meeting the first smug cat in the franchise, you’ll be in the presence of an AC celebrity. Raymond makes K.K Slider look like a mere C-lister.

One of the main reasons for his overwhelming popularity is he’s one of the 8 new villagers introduced in New Horizons. This makes him hard to get, as he doesn’t have an Amiibo card or figurine yet. You literally have to villager hunt on mystery islands if you want to be graced with the best Animal Crossing villagers.

If his status isn’t enough to win you over to team Raymond, he’s also the first villager with heterochromia. If you look at the picture above, you can see that he has colour variations in his irises. With a home to rival the offices of Dunder Mifflin, he’ll lead your island to success with the highest of stonks!

2. Marshal

Despite his grumpy expression, Marshal has been rising to the top of the ranks due to his mere chibi-esque cuteness. This smug squirrel is not as new as Raymond, but he made his debut in New Leaf. And therefore can be summoned via Amiibo. Getting your hands on a Nintendo-approved Amiibo card could set you back at least £80, due to his ever-growing popularity.

With your £80 purchase, you could get a free coffee shop thrown in. Marshal has sacrificed his personal space to welcome neighbours to his home with a nice cup of coffee

Marshal undoubtedly gets his name from his marshmallow-like appearance. His initial expression, “sulky” is a direct reference to his resting bitch-face. Despite his constant state of physical displays of angst, this sweet squirrel is definitely on our quarantine snack list!

3. Sherb

Sherb is another of the 8 new additions to Animal Crossing and arguably the most adorable. Our little blue friend has the lazy personality type, making wholesome interactions with the player. Like all lazy villagers, he has a love of food, the bugs under his bed and relaxing. His Japanese name, Rem, is a reference to REM sleep, further supporting his laid-back traits.

In New Horizons, Sherb has numerous items from the Cute collection in the sky blue variant. But it goes without saying that he’s the cutest thing in his house by a thousand miles.

This new goat villager is clearly the ‘Greatest Of All Time’, with a name that references the fizzy sugary powder. Like Marshal, he’s got everyone wanting to eat him all up due to his inherent cuteness. Why he’s doesn’t sit at top spot as the best Animal Crossing villager, BOGGLES THE MIND. Raymond, he’s coming for your gig.

4. Zucker

Zucker the lazy octopus is one of few food-related villagers and one of 4 octopus villagers. His Japanese name and general appearance refer to the Japanese snack takoyaki, which is a fried ball of dough commonly filled with minced octopus. His house resembles a Japanese street food market, where he’d likely be serving his friends and family fresh. Whether you’re looking for the most morbid villager or not, look no further, he’s here.

Zucker’s initial phrase is “bloop”. If you say “bloop” in the angriest tone possible, you might make yourself smile again after seeing how much his Amiibo card goes for on eBay.

5. Judy

It’s plain to see why Nintendo’s answer to a candyfloss Care Bear, Judy, is in the top 5. Her intense cuteness is enough to make any player invite her to their island. Judy is another new addition to the world of Animal Crossing and she’s been taking it by storm. Players have been flocking to mystery islands in their millions to stand a chance of taking her home. You wouldn’t be able to show us an AC YouTuber who hasn’t used 100+ Nook Miles Tickets to find her. You just couldn’t, it’s fact.

Judy has the snooty personality type, meaning she loves make-up, fashion and gossiping. Her only fall from grace is her initial rudeness to the player and her neighbouring villagers. You’ll be glad to hear that she does eventually warm up to the player. You couldn’t stay mad at those sparkly eyes.

6. Marina

Like Judy, Marina the strawberry pink octopus has no business being THIS adorable. Unlike the top 5 of this list, Marina is an OG villager. She’s been around since Animal Forest e+, which was released in 2003. Marina, who has the normal personality type, is actual Animal Crossing royalty. Along with Zucker, she’s one of 4 octopus villagers; she’s a precious lady and needs to be protected from Zucker and his food cart at all costs.

Marina takes her love of pink to an extreme. If you’re lucky enough to have her move into your island, you will discover that she lives in an exclusively pink paradise. Similar to her oceanic counterpart Zucker, her initial catchphrase is “blurp”. What a joy.

7. Beau

Beau the deer/antelope is our 3rd lazy villager in June’s top 10. He’s been around since New Leaf. But with his laid back and friendly traits, it’s understandable why he’s still widely loved. With the skill of ‘trying to stay awake’, Beau keeps his relevance by being UTTERLY relatable. There’s a reason why lazy villagers are so objectively popular and it’s because they’re a whole mood. We don’t make the rules.

If you have the pleasure of have Beau as your neighbour, you’ll know that his house is pretty much that scene from The Sound of Music. You know the one. The lass is singing atop a flowery mountain in the alps. It’s very pretty and if you wanted, you could even stop at Beau’s for a nice indoor picnic.

8. Stitches

Stitches the lazy cub is clearly a unique addition to this list, he is one of 5 villagers who aren’t technically animals. His striking and unique character design is in reference to a child’s beloved tatty teddy. He fits right in with his sweet nursery-inspired house. His catchphrase, “stuffin’” is also kept in with his toy theme.

Our huggable friend made his debut in the franchise’s 2006 game, Wild World, and has been warming hearts ever since. Some say that his lack of eyes is disturbing, but he’s less threatening than an octopus that serves up his friends, so.

9. Bob

Bob the lazy cat villager is perhaps the most OG of all 400 characters in the franchise. It’s rumoured that he was the first villager in development for the very first Nintendo 64 game back in 2001. This Animal Crossing legend has managed to keep his popularity for a whopping 19 years. Making him quite possibly the best Animal Crossing villager of all time. Can you beat that, Raymond?

This fun feline comes complete with a house decorated exclusively with the kiddie series furniture. And not to mention his hilarious catchphrase “pthhpth”, which references a cat’s ability to bring up a hairball. We salute you, Bob!

“I’m a cat. Chillin’ is in my blood, man.” – Bob, Wild World

10. Ankha

The snooty cat villager, Ankha, has appeared in every game except Animal Forest and Wild World. Her name is based on the ankh, which is the Egyptian hieroglyphic character that reads “life”. She’s been giving us LIFE in lockdown, that’s for sure. Her striking theme screams royalty and elegance. Ankha knows she’s the boss, and with her stubborn snooty personality, she’s not afraid to tell you.

She wears an Egyptian headdress that resembles the Nemes crown with a cobra called the “Uraeus”. This symbolized kingship in ancient Egypt. And if you walk in her house you will see that the centrepiece is a large (but not to scale!) pyramid. Other accents in her royal home include three golden caskets, golden dishes, gold bars, a Libra scale and (hilariously), a golden toilet. This kitty be sitting pretty atop her golden throne! We absolutely worship you, Ankha. What a legend!

We hope you enjoyed June’s edition of the best Animal Crossing Villagers. If you didn’t see your favourite villager in this list, why not comment them down below? We’d love to hear them!
