The Most Anticipated Games of 2022
2022 is shaping up to be an amazing year for AAA and indie games alike. Here are my most anticipated games of the coming gaming-packed year. These are the most anticipated games of 2022.
Elden Ring
That one game that’s on just about everyone’s most anticipated lists, Elden Ring. Elden Ring has generated hype like no FromSoftware game before it. The studio’s last game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was a bold (and incredible) departure from the Soulslike formula that FromSoftware birthed. With the arrival of Elden Ring comes a return to the brutal RPG style that the masses have grown to love FromSoftware for. The industry’s excitement is tangible.
Yeah, it’s pretty clearly Dark Souls 4 in an open world, but that’s precisely why we’re so hyped about it. An expanded magic system, a greater emphasis on exploration, and lore written by George R. R. Martin helps too.
Elden Ring is coming to Xbox, PlayStation and PC on February 25th.
Salt and Sacrifice
Salt and Sacrifice is a surprise sequel to Salt and Sanctuary, the best 2D soulslike until Blasphemous stole its crown in 2019.
We don’t know too much about it right now, other than it seems to feature the same exceptionally punishing combat of its predecessor. It also seems to be continuing the unique, grisly art style that Ska Studios have been cultivating since The Dishwasher, all the way back in 2009.
Salt and Sacrifice does seem to be making some steps forward from the brilliant Sanctuary though, with a new crafting system. As well as online multiplayer. Here’s hoping we get to see much more from Ska Studios in the coming months.

God of War: Ragnarok
Santa Monica Studio’s conclusion to the God of War Norse saga is finally coming this year. We have a surprisingly generous amount of footage for a game without a release date, so we’ve had a good chance to see the new locations, enemies and features that Ragnarok will be bringing with it.
It’s expected that Ragnarok will keep the semi-open world design of its predecessor, but with a much larger world to explore. Santa Monica has confirmed that all nine realms of Norse Mythology will be available to explore, including the previously inaccessible Svartalfheim, Vanaheim and Asgard. Some fans believe we may have already seen Vanaheim in this glorious shot from the September 2021 trailer:
As well as eye-breakingly gorgeous views, these new realms seem to be bringing with them plenty of new foes for Kratos to face on the way to his inevitable fight with the Aesir Gods, including a very suspicious Greek-inspired Centaur. Could this lead to some more callbacks to the original trilogy? Here’s hoping Ragnarok delivers the story it’s teasing later this year.
God of War: Ragnarok is coming to PS4 and PS5 in late 2022.
Hollow Knight: Silksong
We’re still missing a release date but that won’t stop me endlessly hoping for Silksong’s release in 2022. It’s been a long time since we first got a glimpse at the upcoming Hollow Knight sequel, and with very little revealed since then, it’s hard not to be filled with excitement at even a new trailer, let alone an actual release.
Silksong is set to shake up the gameplay of the first Hollow Knight, with players controlling a boss from the first game – Hornet. Whilst the game seems like an undeniable Hollow Knight sequel, Hornet will be bringing with her a full new set of abilities as she travels through the new kingdom of Pharloom.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is launching (hopefully) this year on all major platforms.
Horizon: Forbidden West
Forbidden West looks like it’s going to be even better than Zero Dawn – I promise I’m not just saying that because of how cool the new machines look. War elephants, Torterra-esque Tortoise machines and glimpses of the first game’s dormant Horus Titans were all I needed to become hype for more Horizon.
As well as a new rogues gallery, Forbidden West will also be adding some new mobility mechanics, adding a grapple hook and glider for Aloy to traverse the Solarpunk wasteland that Guerilla Games have lovingly crafted. Swimming is in, too, adding another dimension to Aloy’s exploration of what once was the west coast of North America.
Horizon: Forbidden West is set to release on February 18th for PS4 and PS5.
