Top 10 Nintendo Switch Games You Need To Play Right NOW!

Nintendo Switch games have been basically dropping out of the sky ever since it’s initial release in 2017. Since then, there’s been a constant shift between trending games and the new biggest thing! It’s still a relatively new console so it’s always changing. But, here, today, we’re going to discuss the current Top 10 Nintendo Switch Games you need to play right now and more importantly why you should buy them!

10. Pokemon Sword and Shield

Starting at number 10 on our list of Top 10 Nintendo Switch games is Pokemon Sword and Shield! Released in 2019, Pokemon Sword and Shield have held its ground as an incredible addition to the Switch gaming universe. Sword and Shield were the first new mainline Pokemon game to join the family and they have settled quite well! I personally prefer Shield simply because it’s the legendary’s mane which is very cool!

Whether you’re a sword-er or a shield-er, everyone can agree that the new concept of wild Pokemon being visible is just the best thing. It was such a pain in the old versions when you had to walk through grass! Or worse, walking through caves and those bastard Zubats, I certainly do not want to catch em’ all… Being able to wander around and see the Pokemon in their natural habitats is an incredibly cool update. So for this addition alone, it definitely deserves a place in this ranking.

It can’t be forgotten that there’s a new expansion pass recently released too! With this new pass you can explore a whole new area called The Isle of Armor! Lots of new Pokemon appear in new environments, unseen, even in Galar! And this is only Part 1! Part 2 of the expansion is due to be released this Fall where you can explore the brand new region, The Crown Tundra. Obviously you’ll have to get this game before the next part releases. Gotta catch em all all, right?

9. Cuphead

Notorious for its unexpected difficulty, Cuphead gains its place at number 9. The game, although looking like it came straight out of the 1930s, was released in 2019 for the Switch. The 1930s theme is one of the main reasons it deserves a place in the spotlight! It is an insanely creative idea that very few people would ever consider, let alone indulge. Cuphead brings forward an abundance of classic themes, including its traditional run and gun gameplay.

Pulling off such a brilliant art style combined with an arguably outdated game type, and doing it very successfully, is a true testament to the effort and care Studio MDHR put in. Honestly, you just have to play it to understand how awesome this game is!

8. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is an extraordinary game, the relaxing nature is unparalleled, and is the main appeal of the game to pretty much every player. If you’re not playing ACNH to soothe some sort of permanent/temporary anxiety disorder then you should! The game is incredibly relaxing without frustrating levels or complicated puzzles to solve. It also lets you design and shape your island paradise in any way you wish!

The ultimate goal of the game is to have a pop star dog called K.K. Slider visit and join your island. If that’s not appealing to you then I don’t know what will be. Over 11 million copies were sold by the end of March, and it came out only a couple of weeks previous! I also truly believe that Animal Crossing has really helped some people with braving the worldwide lock down by allowing them to spend time with friends on their tropical islands. 7. Hollow Knight

As a classic 2D action-adventure, this indie game has been widely acclaimed by its fans. To begin with, the art is astonishing. It’s all hand-drawn and the colour hues that play down the screen add to the horror-looking, chilled out gameplay ambience.

Hollow Knight also includes a unique setting in a kingdom of bugs called Hallownest. It’s no surprise then that most of the boss’ are creepy crawlies. The boss design is also super similar to Dark Souls in that they’re difficult but fair opponents. If you die, you know it’s your own fault, no game rage allowed for this one fellas!

If you’re not already convinced this is deserving of its spot at number 7, then what about the fact that it comes with 4 FREE DLCs on the Switch? Not to mention, there’s a new Hollow Knight game coming soon called Hollow Knight: Silksong! So now’s definitely the time to get playing!

6. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Despite being a bit late to the Nintendo Switch party, The Witcher 3 is an amazing addition and undoubtedly deserves a spot on this Top 10 Nintendo Switch games list! You’ll lose hours trying to figure out how they managed to make sure a vast, detailed game look that good on a console so small. Just the thought of carrying with you, the ability to ride Roach, kill ghouls (and alghouls…) and romance Triss (sorry, Yen) whilst you’re on the train on a weekday, or in bed on a lazy Sunday is almost as exciting as playing the game itself.

That means, of course, you’ll be carrying with you a tiny Geralt. A beloved protagonist who, despite some questionable morals and cold demeanour, is a likeable and iconic character. It’s the same game we all know and love, just… smaller. If you need to be sold on it even more we’ll leave you with this – Gwent, on the go.

5. Skyrim

FUS RO DAH! A game like Skyrim hardly needs introducing at this point, but it’s kind of our job so just humour us, ok? Skyrim already sits comfortably as a favourite on several other platforms, so a Switch port didn’t feel necessary at the time. Now, however, it’s safe to say you’re missing out if you haven’t got Tamriel in your pocket.

Dragon slaying on the go, thu-um’ing on your commute, shooting arrows at frost spiders whilst you wait in line for a coffee, joining the Thieves Guild whilst you… sit on the toilet. Just go out and buy it before we try to make an ‘arrow to the knee’ joke. It’ll just be embarrassing for all of us.

4. Celeste

If you haven’t played Celeste yet, then do it. Just save yourself the trouble of arguing with me, and buy it. This game deserves all the praise in the world! Firstly, the power concept is inspired. Madeline’s hair changes colour based on how many jumps/boosts you have left, and any woman will vouch for how important a change in hair colour is in life!

But the main enticing factor for this game is the story behind it. Madeline is attempting to climb Mount Celeste while dealing with anxiety and depression. She constantly faces Badeline (her shadowy counterpart that represents her mental health) and she struggles to reach the top.

Her journey up the mountain aims to reflect the struggle and triumph of accepting your “bad” parts as a part of you. But also, I want to try one of those strawberries and fly with multicoloured hair dammit!

3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

We’re into our top 3 of our Top 10 Nintendo Switch games, now it’s personal! There are probably over a million people CURRENTLY on their Nintendo Switch playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. If that’s not proof that this game deserves a Top 3 place, then I don’t know what is. Actually, is it fantastic gameplay? Is it the ability to consistently play for hours without getting bored? The option to play solo, locally, and online? Is it skilled-based progression? Smash has all of these and more!

There’s so many aspects that you can choose between to make the game more appealing to you. For example, there’s over 100 stages to choose from! Also, you can personalise the game to your preferences! You can have no items, you can change the amount of stocks (lives) you start the game with, you can change how long the game will last before you enter Sudden Death, it’s endless!

I’m not typically a fan of fighter games but the fact that every character has their own moves, combos, and fighting style makes this game appealing to all. If you’re more of a “don’t think, just attack” person then you’ve got characters like Donkey Kong and Ganon, if you’re more of a “don’t just attack, think first” person then there’s Princess Zelda and Wii Fit Trainer. No matter your fighting style, there’s definitely a character available to you.

2. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Anyone who knows me, knows that there’s no way we’d get through this list without Mario Kart 8 Deluxe popping up! So here we are at number 2! I’ve clocked in way too many hours on Mario Kart trying to fully complete it at 3 stars for every track! And, in doing so, learned every little thing there is to love about this game!

There are so many options in regards to characters that actually change the weight of the kart and therefore the gameplay. There’s also an incredible amount of karts and bikes to choose from, along with their accessories such as wheels and gliders that all have different specifications to suit you.

AND, it’s a great game to play by yourself either just for fun or to try to beat every track, but it’s also an incredible addition to gaming time with family and friends. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is suitable for all ages and gaming abilities so why not get Grandma on there? Surprise! She got 1st place at 200 CC on the N64 Rainbow Road!

1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Finally, at number 1 on our Top 10 Nintendo Switch games list, we have The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild! BotW has indefinite replay value so if you think you’re done, do it again! There are always new ways to do things and more than likely, things you missed. How many of you can honestly say you collected every single Korok seed? What about the DLCs? There’s always something you can be doing in BotW and when paired with such breathtaking views created by masterful graphic designs, you get an unbeatable gaming experience!

There are endless amounts of side quests for when you’re feeling discouraged from the main quest and even the main quest switches up a bit because there’s a few going at once! All of the “bosses” are difficult yet achievable and it really makes the game into the incredible creation that it is. When I first bought Breath of the Wild, I spent almost 50 hours on it in the first week, alongside a part-time job and studies. Small disclaimer: the credits will most likely make you cry. There’s also another Breath of the Wild game coming out so if you haven’t already, you need to catch up! The music, game play, characters, graphics, story line and everything in between are what makes this game not only the best in the series, but the Top 10 Nintendo Switch game right now!
