My partner and I have recently picked up games that we can regularly play together. That started as classic go-tos like Minecraft or battle royales but has now become childhood favourites that we can work together to fully complete. As children who grew up throughout the early 2000s, nothing defines our collective gaming experience more than Lego games!
Having recently finished Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and struggling to find thorough guides on where to find crest pieces, characters, and Students In Peril, I thought I’d collate four year by year guides to hopefully lend all of you a hand if you decide to start the same challenge!
Just to reiterate, this is a guide for the collectibles rather than the game itself so all advice will be under the assumption you are playing in the ‘Free Play’ mode with the option of selecting your characters. Starting with Year 1, Philosopher’s Stone, let’s get collecting!
The Gryffindor section of the House Crest can be found in the Leaky Cauldron at the start of the level. You will have to use Wingardium Leviosa on the two candles either side of the bar and build the broken pieces once again with Wingardium Leviosa.
The next section will be the Slytherin crest which is found as soon as you enter Diagon Alley. As you walk down the street, you will find an option to interact with a woman in a shop window. Once you wave at this lady, the crest will appear!
You’ll unlock the Hufflepuff crest by using Wingardium Leviosa on a barrel at the entrance of the street. Build a cleaning device using Wingardium Leviosa and use it to mop up the mess created by exploding the barricade in front of Gringotts Bank.
The final piece to the puzzle is found by using Reducto on a silver padlock to the far right of the map and using a strong character to pull the revealed chain.
The Student In Peril for this level is in Diagon Alley. You’ll come across a table about halfway up that has the ability to be interacted with by Wingardium Leviosa. Jump on the table and have your partner lift you up, or the second character will automatically do so, to reveal a student stuck on the roof.
After Griphook opens the first passage, you will find a chest to the left in between two red armchairs. Destroy the padlock with Reducto and hit the chest with any spell to open and collect Mr. Ollivander’s token!
On the opposite end of the same zone, to the right, will be another chest. Do the same again to reveal Tom the Innkeeper.
Finally, after riding the cart to the vaults, you will come across yet another chest with the same padlock. This chest contains Griphook and the final collectible piece for this level!
On route to the bathroom, there will be nine empty flower pots. Hit them all with magic to create nine flowers to unlock the Gryffindor crest.
Halfway down you will find a fountain. Use Wingardium Leviosa to throw three chicken pieces into the fountain in order to unlock the Slytherin crest!
Similarly to the flower pots, there will also be unlit lamps throughout the level. Turning all seven lamps by hitting them with magic will grant you the Ravenclaw crest.
Also by the fountain, there should be a silver handle that can be destroyed by using Reducto on it. By doing this and turning on the water, the Hufflepuff part will complete the crest.
Quite simply, the Student In Peril for this level is in one of the bathroom stalls that will be destroyed by the troll. Simply interact with them to save them!
Almost immediately as you enter the level, a Rune bookshelf will be stationed and waiting for a character with access to a Rune Book. By mirroring the pattern displayed to you, you will reveal the Ron (Girl Disguise) character token.
The next token is right by the door to the girl’s bathroom hidden behind a desk locked with a silver padlock. Once you destroy the padlock with Reducto, the token to Harry (Hogwarts) will appear!
Once in the bathroom, one of the lockers has a silver blockade on it. Destroy this with Reducto and be on your way with Madam Malkin!
There are seven flag poles throughout the level, by using Wingardium Leviosa on all seven you’ll get the Gryffindor section.
Not too far into the level, you’ll come across a section where you have to arrange blocks to move on. By building them in the opposite direction you will be able to climb up to collect the Ravenclaw crest!
Once you’ve followed the intended path of these Duplo stairs, a blockade defeated by Reducto will protect pixies holding a chest. Using Immobulus on these pixies and opening the chest will reveal the familiar yellow of the Hufflepuff crest.
Almost immediately after this, once you’ve opened the trap door and before going up the ladder to complete the level, jump around the gate to the left of the platform and use Dark Magic on the barrel at the end to collect the Slytherin crest.
As well as the chest containing the Hufflepuff crest, behind the earlier blockade will also be the Student In Peril for this level. Easy as Reducto!
Harry (Girl Disguise) can be collected right after getting to the trapdoor by using Scabbers to go under the platform.
A chest locked with a silver padlock is located right next to the tunnel and can be destroyed using Reducto. By doing this you will unlock Fred (Quidditch)!
Finally, right after creating the staircase, there will be a closet on the left. This can be opened by using Dark Magic to collect Marcus Flint’s character token.
In the back right corner of the first room, a Rune bookshelf can be found hiding the Gryffindor crest.
At various points throughout the level, six empty flower vases can be found. By hitting all six of them with magic and creating flowers you will unlock the Hufflepuff crest. The first room contains four of the six and the last two are in the next room!
In the final room of the level, where the mirror can be found, there are three spider webs with spiders in the centre. By knocking down all three spiders you will be able to collect the Slytherin crest.
Also in the first room, once you’ve collected the spider ingredient for the potion, use Dark Magic on the spider web and destroy all of the plants to uncover the Ravenclaw crest.
In the second room, use Reducto on the cage and then use Wingardium Leviosa to get buildable bricks. Using Wingardium Leviosa on these bricks will assemble a clock, and once again using Wingardium Leviosa to turn the clock will reveal the Student In Peril!
Use Reducto on the silver easel under the right terrace in the first room to find Harry (Pyjamas)!
In the second room, there will be a safe requiring a character with a key. Unlocking this safe will allow you to collect the Filch character token.
Finally, in the last room, there is a showcase on the right-hand side that, once Dark Magic has been used on it, will display Neville (Pyjamas)’s token!
Use magic on three yellow flowers found across the level to unlock the Hufflepuff crest piece.
After drilling a hole in the lake, six chicken legs will appear. Throw these into the small pool of water leftover by using Wingardium Leviosa in order to collect the Gryffindor crest piece.
There are 10 black rocks throughout the level that can be destroyed using Dark Magic. Doing this will grant you the Slytherin crest piece!
Also once the lake has cleared, a chest with a silver padlock will be revealed. Using Reducto on this allows you to grab the final crest.
Right at the beginning of the level you will see the Student In Peril trapped in Devil’s Snare. Use Lumos Solem on it to save him!
Fang is the first available character token, found under a digging spot in the lower right corner.
Right next to the pile of bricks you have to build there is a chest. Destroy this with Reducto to unveil Hagrid!
A black boulder can be seen after forming the brick staircase. Use Dark Magic to destroy this to collect Draco (Hogwarts)’s character token.
As soon as you fall underground, a silver chest can be found at the back of the room. First use Lumos Solem on the Devil’s Snare then use Reducto to destroy the chest and pick up the Gryffindor crest!
There are 10 silver keys in the room with the flying keys and they can be destroyed with Reducto. Doing so will reveal the Slytherin crest piece.
The Ravenclaw piece is at the back of the chess room. Destroy the silver chest with Reducto and jump onto the horse after it pops out.
The Hufflepuff crest is also in the chest room at the forefront. Use Dark Magic on the destroyed tower to grab it!
The Student In Peril for this level is in the key room. When you’re on the broom, you’ll see a platform and a group of Devil’s Snare blocking something. Land on the platform, use Lumos Solem on the plant, and save the student!
In the key room there is a closet with a silver padlock. Destroy the padlock with Reducto to unveil the Harry (Slytherin Disguise) character token!
In the chess room, right at the beginning, there is a destroyed queen. Using Dark Magic on her will allow you to collect Professor Quirrell (Voldemort).
The same piece can be found at the other end of the board. Carry out the same manoeuvre to unlock Ron (Cardigan)!
Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 may be considered a children’s game but it’s a great challenge for friends or couples to completely master!
