Through an epic cinematic trailer, Mr Sakurai, the creator of the Super Smash Bros. series, revealed the Smash Bros new DLC Character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to be Min Min! Though it was a bit of a roller coaster as the different ARMS characters fought for the Smash Bros. invitation…
ARMS is a fighting game where the characters primarily fight using stretchy, weaponised, mechanical arms. The game was released shortly after the Switch and was developed by Nintendo themselves. The character of Min Min is a Chinese martial artist who battles to promote her family’s ramen restaurant. According to ARMS Institute, Min Min is:
“A member of ramen royalty, she hails from the famed Mintendo Noodle House! Her kicks are known to knock down her opponents’ attacks.”
This new DLC will include Min Min, a new stage, and 18 songs from ARMS, for only $5.99 (£4.81)!
Firstly, STAY AWAY FROM YOUR OPPONENT. There aren’t really any moves catered to close contact, but if you’re fighting against Min Min then that can be a good thing.
Using basic attack (A) you can extend the left arm which essentially results in a solid punch. The side Smash Attack (A + left/right) is a much stronger version of this, perfect for punching the lights out of your opponent!
For the first time, pressing B isn’t a normal special. Sakurai has made it so that A controls the left arm, and B controls the right arm. Both attacks perform a punch motion but with different arm ends.
You can also perform a ‘consecutive smash attack’ using Min Min’s two arms by pressing both A and B. This releases both arms very quickly after each other and will deal a lot more damage! Using this will also protect you from counters.
The down special makes the arms change (awesome!!) between Ramram, Megawatt, and Dragon.
The up special is the ‘ARMS jump’ which is incredibly useful when used with the down smash to destroy your friends. Most likely though, this will mostly be useful in recovery due to the left arm acting like a grapple hook.
The up smash performs a super cool somersault kick which can reflect projectiles from opponents.
The down smash kicks her legs around, allowing you to sweep your opponents off their feet…with your fighting skills!
When holding A you can do a combo attack with your arm, whereas many quick taps will perform her famous kicks.
The ‘ARMS Rush’. I know, it sounds really cool, and it is! You’ve certainly seen it before as the Assist Trophy Spring Man uses it and unleashes loads of punches. But this is a Final Smash, so you know there’s going to be an amazing, over-the-top cinematic to go with it. ALL of the ARMS fighters gather together and release these punches before finishing off with Min Min using the Dragon to smash her enemies out of the stage. Could that be any cooler?
The stage accompanying Smash Bros new DLC Character Min Min into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is Spring Stadium!
In the stadium is a pillar that displays different ARMS characters throughout the fight. There are also jumping platforms that rise on either side of the stage. When jumped on, you reach a much higher height than any jump button for any character can achieve. Better yet, if you make contact with an opponent while in this jump, you actually cause some notable damage.
The arches above the stadium mean that if a character is smashed into them they basically bounce off the stage; one stock down! They can also bounce back onto the stage but if you act quickly, you can totally hit them with a combo.
The main advantage of this stage is that besides from when the jumping platforms are out, there aren’t any platforms! Easy, blockade-free fighting is allowed.
As with previous DLC additions, Smash has added a track list to the game of some of the best tunes from the ARMS games. In fact, it’s almost the complete track list! Take a look:
Smash Bros new DLC Character isn’t the end though. With several DLCs always occurring around the same time, it’s important to know that 5 more new Smash characters are due to be announced by December! If the current climate is anything to go by then it’d be a good bet to have a character from Crash Bandicoot, probably Crash. (More about him HERE!)
However if history is anything to go by then it’ll probably be a bunch from the same game (I’m looking at you Fire Emblem). If you have any ideas about who the upcoming characters may be then let us know!
