Nintendo Direct February 2022 Highlights
We have been surprised yet again with a Nintendo Direct this week, which was approximately 40 minutes focused mainly on releases set for the first half of 2022. Let’s take a look at the Nintendo Direct February 2022 Highlights!
Fire Emblem Is Back!
A new instalment of Fire Emblem Warriors is nearly upon us! The new hack and slash title Three Hopes will be released on 24th June of this year. It will follow a different story in the universe of Three Houses.
Mario Strikes Again!
Another addition to the beloved Mario Strikers series showcased new action-packed and dynamic gameplay. It includes a variety of battle techniques such as tackles, special shots, items and gear to use on the field. Let’s not forget the “Hyper Strike” scoring you two goals in one! Mario Strikers Battle League will release on 10th June 2022 and pre-orders are available now!
New Splatoon Co-op Mode!
Splatoon 3 has a new update for “Salmon Run Next Wave”. This new Co-op mode features new enemies and obstacles like the “Fish Stick” and “Flipper-Flopper”. A new mode, “Egg Throw”, has also been added to the mix! Splatoon 3 will be dropping on the Switch this summer!
A New Look For Kirby!
We were treated to new gameplay footage for Kirby and the Forgotten Land where the “Mouthful Mode” highlights new mechanics for Kirby! You can transform into a car, a vending machine, a lightbulb and so much more! These features help you attack and navigate your way through levels. Rescuing Waddle Dees allow you to develop Waddle Dee Town and upgrade weapons and copy abilities. This title launches on 25th March and pre-orders are open now!
The Long-Awaited Renewal
Have you missed Wii Sports? Well, Nintendo Switch Sports may be the solution! Nintendo has finally announced a follow up to their cherished series with a refreshing look and new sports to play! These include soccer, badminton and volleyball. A leg-strap joy-con accessory will be available with physical copies of the game. Motion controls have been refined to enhance the gameplay of the classic sports from previous games. Online play is possible across all sports! The game will release on 29th April 2022 with two free soccer and golf updates following later on in the year. Players with an online Nintendo account can try an online play test between 18th-20th February before the launch!
Even More Dread!
Two additional modes are arriving for Metroid Dread as a free update. Playing the fear-inducing “Dread Mode” means you are down in one hit, increasing the game’s difficulty. However, if you’re new to the series or prefer a more easy-going experience “Rookie Mode” is also an option, allowing for increased recovery. This update is available to play now! A second free update for “Boss Rush Mode” will land in April.
It Was Bound To Happen
If you have Nintendo Switch online you can now play EarthBound and EarthBound Beginnings on the NES and SNES Switch apps. These classic adventures can finally be enjoyed by old and new fans alike!
MarioKart Memories
Nintendo Switch best-seller, MarioKart 8 Deluxe, is getting new paid DLC called the “Booster Course Pass” featuring 48 additional remastered tracks from previous titles! These tracks will be released in waves, 8 tracks at a time, from 18th March 2022 till the end of 2023. These courses can be played locally and online. Pre-orders are available now. If you have the Nintendo Switch Expansion Pack membership the DLC is already included at no additional cost.
Xenoblade Is Now A Trilogy!
An announcement has dropped for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and it’s landing in September this year. The story will combine those of the worlds explored in the two previous mainline titles. Xenoblade fans can look forward to a new adventure later this year!
