First Time Playing Death Stranding?

Even for the advanced gamer, Death Stranding can be a challenging and, at times, overwhelming game. It’s not the most technically difficult game to play, but instructions and tutorials are often brief and thrown at you without thorough detailed instruction.

Although some players enjoy the challenge and these elements of self-discovery, the game is renowned for being arduous and testing your endurance. Death Stranding released on PC recently, and whilst I recommend you play your first playthrough completely blind for a much more rewarding experience, here are some tips that you may appreciate!

1. Embrace the Journey

If you’re walking into this game blind, be sure to get used to the slow and steady pacing. The first few hours of the game will see you carrying heavy packages to and from delivery destinations multiple times.

Unlike other AAA titles with dramatically paced opening missions, Death Stranding sets you up for the rest of the game with total honesty. As the memes suggest, this is a walking simulator. For the right player, however, this can be one of the most interesting, meditative and rewarding games you’ll ever play.

2. Take your Time, but Don’t

Missions are rewarded in speed! Although the game will probably be the slowest-paced game you’ll ever encounter, it’s important to deliver on time. Doing so will entitle you to weapon, vehicle and gadget upgrades.

Also, MULE’s may be out on your case too, and could severely detract from your objectives and timekeeping.

3.Listen to People!

Death Stranding is a little more dialogue-heavy than most other games headlining the charts right now. When you boot up the game, dedicate some time to yourself or anyone you can trust to be silent with you.

Not only is the main story one you don’t want to miss out on whether the information be minor or major, dialogue also paves your way to success. You won’t magically win Death Stranding, but by listening to what characters have to say, you may learn a thing or two about the gadgets you’re given, which brings us to our next point…

4. Gadgets: Container Repair Spray

What may seem like rain in Death Stranding is known as timefall. Don’t be fooled by its harmless presence though, as this natural phenomenon can be fatal. The water catalyses the ageing process of just about anything upon contact, turning young men into old, and fragile plants into withered stems. Unfortunately, timefall affects your cargo as well, which is why Container Repair Spray is essential. You can fabricate the gadget at one of the many safehouses. Once equipped, make sure to point the spray backwards so that Sam aims it at the packages on his back. This will repair any containers that are damaged by either timefall or being dropped. One important note; the spray will not repair the contents of the container. If the inside of the container is broken, don’t waste your spray on it, as you’d be better off recycling or offloading it.

5. Gadgets: Bola Gun

Rookie errors were made here by me. A few hours into the game and you’ll unlock the bola gun, an awesome, non-lethal weapon that fires a weighted bola at enemies. Be conservative with your ammo and strategic as to how you use it, however. The bola gun is great at tying MULEs up, leaving them wriggling on the ground. However, the effects are temporary, and if you take your time hanging around, the MULEs will be up and at you a minute or so after hitting the ground.
