Worms Rumble: Everything We Know So Far
Since the release of the original in 1995, the Worms series just keeps on giving. With each installation, its classic gameplay formula has been upgraded. The squeaky-voiced invertebrates have battled on land, in space and in vehicles; they’ve even put their differences aside for the occasional game of golf! With the newest addition to the series to be released later this year, we’re certain that there’ll be changes, big and small. Here’s what we know so far about Worms Rumble.
Real-time Combat
Worms Rumble is the first Worms game to feature real-time combat! All the previous titles have kept to their traditional turn-based formula. If the trailer is anything to go by, the picked-up pace certainly looks more frantic and hectic than any of the previous instalments!
Back to Basics
The series reached great success with their 3D third-person titles Worms 3D and Worms 4 Mayhem. Worms Rumble, however, sees the action return to the iconic side-scrolling with a glossy new visual style. The trailer shows off great graphics in awesome locations, full of textured depth. The trailer shows the worms battle in toilets, casinos, restaurants, and space stations, so as always, there’s no lack of variety! Whether these locations are destructible or not is unknown at this point.
32 Player Online Matches
Previous Worms games typically allow for a maximum of eight worms per team. Worms Rumble is set to eclipse these numbers with the promise of 32 player matches! We’re not sure whether this means 32 individual players, two teams of 16 or something else. What we do know for certain though is that 32 onscreen players will no doubt be as chaotic as it sounds!
Battle Royale
It’s no surprise that Worms Rumble features a Battle Royale mode. Popularised by Fortnite and PUBG, the past few years has seen many games jumping onboard the last-man-standing mode trend. In Worms Rumble, it’s likely that up to 32 players will battle it out on screen simultaneously to be the sole survivor. Expect plenty of bullets, shells, grenades and maybe a few sheep if we’re lucky.
Customisable Worms are Back
Well, this was a given. Thankfully, your army of worms will still be fully customisable. The trailer boasted numerous hilarious outfits to make your worm stand out from the crowd. Dance moves have even been added to taunt your opponents even more. Fans, however, are divisive over a certain dance move shown in the trailer, ten points to anyone who can guess what it is… *cough* flossing *cough*
Little else is known about Worms Rumble, but little else is probably being kept hidden from us. Worms is a universally beloved party game franchise, and from what the trailer shows, Rumble shows no sign of it stopping here. However, for some gamers, the real-time combat goes against the very core of what makes Worms great. What do you think?
